Ivy Austin, cast member, The Night Kitchen Radio Theater Ivy Austin was a fixture on National Public Radio for many years on Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion. She created and produced two of her own radio specials for NPR, Christmas at Rainbow Corner, and Her Funny Valentine. Ivy began on Broadway in Raggedy Ann, and went on to New York City Opera to sing Sweeney Todd, Naughty Marietta, Merry Widow, Music Man, New Moon, Desert Song, South Pacific, and Candide. She performed at Carnegie Hall in Ira Gershwin-The Art of the Lyricist, at Alice Tully Hall in Radio Rhapsody, and at City Center with Rob Fisher and The Coffee Club Orchestra. She was both writer and host of seven seasons of musical series at the World Financial Center, and continues to sing with The Muppets on Sesame Street. On WNYC, Ivy has appeared on Symphony Space broadcasts of Selected Shorts, Bloomsday, and Wall-To-Wall programs featuring the music of Irving Berlin ,Frank Loesser, Leonard Bernstein, Kurt Weill, Richard Rodgers, Joni Mitchell, and Stephen Sondheim. She has performed extensively at The New York Historical Society, The Century, and in Lyrics & Lyricists at The 92nd Street Y. Currently, Ivy adds her distinctive flavor to a monthly political, social, and musical satire called The Thalia Follies on New York’s Upper West Side. |
